The Schmidt Family
Based in the Twin Cities, AMEK Exteriors, AMEK Inc., and Home911 are family-owned and operated businesses founded in 1996 by brothers Matt and Andrew Schmidt, later joined by brother Paul and father Mark. Another brother, Aaron, operates his own company, AMEK Electric.
The AMEK company has grown by building client relationships and referrals. As we work closely with each client, the Schmidt family honors their core values that apply both to their work and personal lives – integrity, honesty, and trust. This desire for true relationships and superior craftsmanship is what drives the attention to detail in all aspects of a project – whether it’s an exterior renovation, remodel, construction defect remediation, emergency repair, or the design and build of a new home.
As our business steadily grows, so does the depth of the family involvement. It is now common for several of the older grandchildren to come help their grandfather Mark do jobsite clean-up or organize our supply room. The Schmidt family continues to be energized by its clients and the creativity and solutions that come with each project. We look forward to connecting again with past clients and meeting new ones.

Paul Schmidt, VP of Sales / Owner
Working at AMEK since 1998, Paul’s experience includes installing siding and roofs, designing exterior remodeling projects, analyzing ventilation and insulation issues, surveying stucco stability, and repairing poor construction. He considers himself a bit of a forensic scientist because he is intrigued by the challenge of knowing how to put exterior cladding together to create both superior protection and a strikingly beautiful appearance. When other companies don’t install things such as footings, insulation, siding, windows, and roofing correctly; it can lead to a construction defect. Paul is sought out by attorneys, engineers, moisture testing firms, homeowner associations and homeowners because he excels at analyzing the weaknesses that caused the defect and then producing a detailed and accurate estimate to fix the issue. He is both methodical and hands-on – balancing studying building plans, engineering scopes and moisture testing reports with being out on the job sites surveying progress and installation techniques. Outside his work commitments, Paul enjoys being out on the open road bicycling through farm country and sharing time with his family.

Building Codes & Construction Laws
Because our company does remodeling, new home construction, and construction defect projects; we know, understand, and apply national and Minnesota Building Code regulations to our work. We pull the necessary permits, so our projects are fully inspected. Everything we do is up-front and legal – no behind-the-scenes stuff that will cause problems down the road when you sell your home. Because many of our construction defect projects involve litigation, we have gained in-depth knowledge about construction laws and how they relate to homeowners, homeowner associations and builders.
Litigation Testimonials: Plaintiff & Defense Experience
AMEK Exteriors provides testimonials for arbitration, mediation, and trial cases and has represented plaintiffs and the defense side of cases (see Paul Schmidt’s CV). We know you want someone who can confidently relay their knowledge of how the defect happened and what it will take to restore it – structurally and aesthetically. We specialize in detailed and accurate estimates.
Prioritizing, budgeting and adjusting materials can make a big difference to the overall plan. AMEK Exteriors is able to analyze the pieces to determine priorities or alternative products while keeping the project specifications and budget framework in mind. Our goal is to provide single-family and multi-family homeowners with the best value for the project.
Roofing & Siding Product Knowledge
With our construction experience, we keep up with current building products and technology to make recommendations that allow for a full exterior integration system. AMEK Exteriors looks for materials that have long-lasting strength, superior construction and appearance. We work with several manufacturers to match your needs and style offering you custom possibilities beyond the standard options.
Budget Planning for Homeowner Associations and Management Companies
AMEK Exteriors can help your association assess damage and determine an order of remediation for budget planning and so repairs are done systematically to lower total project costs and reduce interruption for tenants.
Communications & Transparency
Our goal at AMEK Exteriors is to keep all parties current with the progress of a project. We openly provide a portal into our project management software program so you can see updates, selections, messages, and photos for your project.
