Based in the Twin Cities, AMEK Exteriors, AMEK Inc., and Home911 are family-owned and operated businesses founded in 1996 by brothers Matt and Andrew Schmidt, later joined by brother Paul and father Mark. Another brother, Aaron, operates his own company, AMEK Electric.
The AMEK company has grown by building client relationships and referrals. As we work closely with each client, the Schmidt family honors their core values that apply both to their work and personal lives – integrity, honesty, and trust. This desire for true relationships and superior craftsmanship is what drives the attention to detail in all aspects of a project – whether it’s an exterior renovation, remodel, construction defect remediation, emergency repair, or the design and build of a new home.
As our business steadily grows, so does the depth of the family involvement. It is now common for several of the older grandchildren to come help their grandfather Mark do jobsite clean-up or organize our supply room. Paul Schmidt, VP of Sales / Owner
Working at AMEK since 1998, Paul’s experience includes installing siding and roofs, designing exterior remodeling projects, analyzing ventilation and insulation issues, surveying stucco stability, and repairing poor construction. He considers himself a bit of a forensic scientist because he is intrigued by the challenge of knowing how to put exterior cladding together to create both superior protection and a strikingly beautiful appearance. When other companies don’t install things such as footings, insulation, siding, windows, and roofing correctly; it can lead to a construction defect. Paul is sought out by attorneys, engineers, moisture testing firms, homeowner associations and homeowners because he excels at analyzing the weaknesses that caused the defect and then producing a detailed and accurate estimate to fix the issue. He is both methodical and hands-on – balancing studying building plans, engineering scopes and moisture testing reports with being out on the job sites surveying progress and installation techniques. Outside his work commitments, Paul enjoys being out on the open road bicycling through farm country and sharing time with his family.

Because our company does remodeling, new home construction, and construction defect projects; we know, understand, and apply national and Minnesota Building Code regulations to our work. We are an EPA-certified Lead Safe Renovator, meaning we trained and certified in using lead-safe practices when working on job sites in which lead-based paint is disturbed.
